The Process

Building a putting green is a big project. Do you just want a putting green? Do you want to be able to chip to your green? How does this whole green fit into your space?

We're here to help! Here is a breakdown of what to expect when working with us on your putting green project.

Step 1

Site Assessment

This is the most fun part. We want to hear your vision. Take us for a walk around your property. Tell us your goals. Are you looking for a space the family can hang? Are you working on dialing your short game to improve your game? Are you trying to give your employees/patrons a place to socialize?

This is the time to tell us what you want out of your putting green. We will consult with you during this time about what might work best for your space.

Step 2

Design Proposal

We show you plans for how the green will fit into your space. At this time we will give you a day by day plan of what to expect for the project. In the end, we say a price and hopefully you say yes!

Step 3

Site Preparation

This is the ugly part. This is the time where someone says "I really hope this turns out nice." Prepping a site for turf is often times not pretty. We will be outlining the green and hitting areas, digging, compacting, and generally getting our hands dirty.

Step 4

Rocks!

Lots and lots of rocks! A good putting green needs a good foundation and that's what we'll be doing. A couple inches of bigger rocks and then a topping of much finer rocks. The reason for this is to give the green durability and good water drainage. This step also allows us to level the green properly.

Step 5

Turf Installation

This is the part where the same person that said "I really hope this turns out nice," starts to get excited. At this point the turf goes down. The edges get trimmed and the holes get cut. We almost have a putting green!

Do you know how many nails go into an artificial turf putting green? Honestly, we don't either, but it is a lot! 6" spikes. 4" framing nails. 2" trim nails. It's a lot.

Step 6

Top Fill

Arguably the most important part of your green. Top fill is ultra fine sand that sits on top of the turf and gives the whole structure weight so it stays in place. The top fill also serves to make balls roll straight and true. Top fill can vary greatly depending on the type of turf you would like to use.

Higher pile height - more top fill

Lower pile height - less top fill

Step 7

We're all done

We clean up and get out of your hair! It's time for you to enjoy golf right in your backyard! We will leave you with a maintenance packet to help guide you to keeping your green in tip top shape. Artificial turf greens don't need much, but a little attention once in a while will greatly contribute to the life of your green.
